15 Ways to Relax & Unwind

As a mother of two small babies, it’s extremely difficult to ever make any time for myself. If you’re a mom… then I know you completely understand what I’m saying.
The moment my kiddies go to bed for the night (9pm), I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders almost. Like, I’ve finished my “work” for the day. Like, I can finally sit down, relax, and do me.

But that isn’t always the case! After they are in bed for the night, I feel like I can finally do STUFF! Some things I can manage to throw in during the day, but others I cannot. Sometimes, it’s not that I “can’t”… it’s more like I forget or I attempt to start something, that doesn’t end up happening. LOL

Some things I do every day after they’re asleep is:
• clean up the house (put toys and stuff away)
• clean the floors (sweep, dry swifter and mop every night)
• the kitchen (do the dishes and put them away or throw them in the dishwasher)
• do laundry
• take the dog out
• feed the fish (we have 3 red tails)
• prepare lunch and sometimes dinner too, for the following day
• switch the laundry
• eat a snack
• make hubbies lunch
• check on the kiddies
• take a bath and unwind a bit
• get and put the laundry away
• catch up with social media

I know your list must be similar but may include less or more… either way, I know you have a list of things you do after the kiddies are asleep! When I look at my list, the only time I actual relax and unwind is when I’m taking a bath… And by the time I’m done all the things on my list, I just want to curl up in my cozy bed and sleep!

It’s so important for us to MAKE TIME for ourselves. This is definitely something I don’t do enough! I’ve recently added a silent/ quiet time to my bath time. I literally put my phone down, put a few drops of my favourite Essential Oils in (CHILL is my fave), sit/ lay back, and relax. I do this for about 10 minutes. It doesn’t seem like much time, I know, but it definitely does my mind, body and soul GOOD! I’m working on incorporating more ME time into my life. We all know this isn’t an easy thing to do. Whether it’s big or small. It’s hard. But it is something we MUST all do!

I’ve complied a list of 15 things/ ways we, as moms, can do to relax and unwind.

1) Get Fresh Air.
This is one of my biggest outlets to de-stress, relax and unwind. Getting out of the house, breathing fresh air for anywhere from 5-30 minutes helps me collect my thoughts and clear my mind.
2) Take a nice long bath (include essential oils or candles).

3)  Enjoy some Tea, Hot Chocolate, or a Glass of Wine

4) Snuggle with your Significant Other or Pet(s)

5) Watch some TV

6) Listen to Music

7) Read a Book

8) Write in a Notebook, Pocket Journal or Diary

9) Yoga

10) Mediate

11) Get a Massage

12) Get a Mani or Pedi (or both!)

13) Turn off technology

14) Just sit and put your feet up

15) Pray – Tap into a higher power.
If you’re a religious person, or even a spiritual one, try prayer, spiritual reflection or meditation, recommends Joseph Ojile, MD, founder of the Clayton Sleep Institute in St. Louis and a spokesman for the National Sleep Foundation. These practices promote a restful mind and body.
There you have it! 15 Ways to RELAX & UNWIND! 🙌🏼

  1. I have found that a bullet journal and decorating my planner with stickers is my “me time”. I do my bullet journal every evening and then my sticker planning is every Sunday night as a way to unwind and prep my mind for the weekend!
